The North Carolina Tar Heels have hit a bump in the road in February. Following a big win over Duke that extended their win streak to five in the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Tar Heels have lost two of three.
That is in a large part due to the injuries to Caleb Wilson and Henri Veesaar. Both were injured in the loss to Miami and have missed the win over Pitt and the loss at NC State. Wilson is expected to be out for some time, but the surprise absence is Veesaar's.
An illness and lower-body injury kept him out against Pitt. But it was reported that the injury was what kept him out at NC State. Following that game, Hubert Davis called Veesaar day-to-day.
"His outlook is day to day. Every day, he's getting better. In regard to the lower extremities, he's getting better, also with his flu. He's making huge strides every day, and every day we'll evaluate and see when he's available to practice, and then when he's able to practice, see when he's able to play."
On Wednesday, the story took an interesting turn via an Inside Carolina report: "A team spokesman confirmed on Wednesday that the seven-footer is, in fact, being held out of practice."
That's not a good sign. The first step for Veessar to return is getting back to practice. But the season is winding down and time is running out. For North Carolina, the hope is he and Wilson can return before the season is over and go on a run.
