One of the better stories for the New York Giants early in the season was the success of rookie kicker Dominic Zvada. He started 9-for-9 through the first four games but has since gone 4-for-9 over the last three.
In the team's Week 5 game against the Washington Commanders, Zvada went 2-for-5 in challenging weather conditions. After going 0-for-2 against the Houston Texans this past weekend, many believed the Giants would work out other kickers during the bye week, as his inconsistency had become a liability.
Head coach John Harbaugh quickly clarified his belief in Zvada , stating there will be no kicker workouts despite the recent struggles.
Former NFL kicker Lawrence Tynes, who won two Super Bowls with the Giants, offered his input on the situation, praising Harbaugh's handling of it on X on Tuesday.
Tynes is one of the more active former Giants on X and closely follows the team. He is clearly a strong believer in Harbaugh and the way he operates, particularly when it comes to the kicking situation.
Zvada left a potential nine points on the board in the Giants' tie against the Washington Commanders a few weeks ago. He also missed from 56 and 44 yards in Sunday's win against the Texans. The issues extended further, as the Giants later punted from the 37-yard line when Harbaugh did not have confidence in Zvada at that point.
Tynes' vote of confidence in both Harbaugh and the Giants' rookie kicker is a nice gesture from the two-time Super Bowl champion. The Giants need better and more consistent kicking from Zvada as the season progresses. However, with Harbaugh unconcerned about the struggles, fans should have faith in the head coach who has changed the culture around the team.
