Lazio Faces Major Goalkeeper Crisis With Motta Ruled Out of Roma Derby
Lazio goalkeeper Edoardo Motta will miss the Derby della Capitale against Roma due to an injury, causing an emergency between the posts.
The Background
The 21-year-old joined the club in January as a replacement for Christos Mandas , who signed for Bournemouth . The young Italian has been a revelation for the Biancocelesti, producing stellar displays in goal while filling in for Ivan Provedel , whose campaign ended prematurely due to a shoulder surgery.

Edoardo Motta , Mattia Zaccagni & Patric Will Skip Roma Derby
According to several sources in the Italian press, including La Lazio Siamo Noi and Il Corriere dello Sport , Motta has been ruled out of Sunday's Derby due to a muscle injury. He will join Mattia Zaccagni and Patric on the sidelines, leaving Alessio Furlanetto as the only available first-team goalkeeper.

Alessio Furlanetto Set for Lazio Debut
The 24-year-old is a Lazio academy product who was promoted to the senior squad in 2022, but only effectively joined the Biancocelesti's squad in 2024, after spending two campaigns on loan at Renate and Fermana.

Furlanetto has been Lazio's third-choice goalkeeper over the past two seasons, so he never had the opportunity to play. Therefore, the Italian custodian will make his Serie A debut on Sunday against Roma, and it will also be his first appearance for Lazio at the senior level in any competition.
Mario Gila & Toma Basic Also Doubtful
LLSN also reveals that Mario Gila and Toma Basic aren't at their best. Therefore, the Croatian midfielder should be replaced by Fisayo Dele-Bashiru , while the Spanish defender is still expected to start amid the lack of options — Alessio Romagnoli is suspended, while Patric is injured, and Samuel Gigot hasn't played all season.
Adam Marusic would be moved to a central role with Manuel Lazzari coming in at right-back if Gila succumbs to injury.
