Jean-Matteo Bahoya is at risk of following in Harvey Elliott's footsteps as his Leeds United loan spell continues to stall.
Elliott spent last season on loan at Aston Villa, where he was bombed out of Unai Emery's squad so that the club wouldn't be forced to trigger his appearance-based obligation to buy.
Bahoya, meanwhile, has a similar clause in his contract at Elland Road and has played just five minutes of football across two appearances since his move in the summer.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, concerns are growing about what has become a "strange" situation for Bahoya at Leeds.
This comes after Daniel Farke's press conference outburst, in which he suggested that the 21-year-old was still a way off playing any meaningful minutes in his side.
Farke dismissed any suggestions that Bahoya should be playing an increased role, claiming he doens't understand the "hype", and raising questions about his future.
What is next for Jean-Matteo Bahoya at Leeds?
Former Man United coach Mick Brown told Football Insiderlast month that Farke has not been impressed by Bahoya's performances in training since his arrival on loan.
The boss is still waiting for the winger to prove he deserves a role in the starting XI, especially given how settled and successful his lineup has been this season.
However, as Bahoya continues to sit on the sidelines at Elland Road, doubts have emerged about his long-term future at the club and whether he could play a part.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "It's a bit of a strange one this, since Jean-Mateo Bahoya came in to Leeds during the summer on loan.
"It looked like he was going to strengthen that Leeds attacking line, which we know they have been keen to do recently, but he's really struggled for game time.
"I think he's played five minutes if that, in their games so far this season, and it's become clear that maybe Daniel Farke doesn't rate him.
"It sort of reminds me a little bit of Harvey Elliott's situation at Aston Villa last year where he was sort of rarely given these chances because of a buy option in his deal.
"There's obviously a similar option in his deal at Leeds, so it will be interesting to keep an eye on that and see if anything changes with regard to his future."
Leeds 'concerned' about Jean-Matteo Bahoya after training ground claim Leeds 'more than happy' to trigger Jean-Matteo Bahoya buy option What do Leeds have planned for Bahoya long-term?
Despite the growing concerns surrounding Bahoya's future at Elland Road, and the doubts about whether he is rated by Farke, Leeds do have a long-term plan for him.
Having signed him on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt late in the summer window, they have been prepared to afford him time to settle and adapt to Premier League football.
Football Insiderrevealed last month that Leeds are hoping Bahoya will play an increased role as the season goes on and that they will eventually sign him permanently.
Sources say that Leeds will be "more than happy" to sign the winger permanently if he makes strong contributions this term, although something will have to change.
Much will depend on whether Bahoya can convince Farke of his talents and work his way into the starting XI, having so far failed to do so.
