Leon Goretzka finally made his first start in Aston Villa colours after joining Unai Emery's side on a free transfer during the summer.
Supporters have been forced to remain patient with the 31-year-old, who arrived unfit and struggling with injury after being a free agent.
With plenty of experience for Bayern Munich over the years, many saw him as the perfect addition to Emery's squad for a difficult transition in 2026-27.
The Villans lost several key players over the summer, including Youri Tielemans, Ollie Watkins, Ezri Konsa and Emi Martinez.
While Villa did eventually reinvest the money made on Morgan Rogers' exit, the start to the campaign has been a very rocky one.
And Goretzka has mostly been forced to watch on from the sidelines, that is until now, having started against Bournemouth on Wednesday, 28 October.

He was joined in the middle of the park by Joao Gomes, and while the Cherries went on to claim a 3-0 win, there was a lot to be excited about.
Brian Madjo also got to start up front, which is what many fans have been crying out for at Villa Park. It's just a shame that the result didn't go their way.
Goretzka seems to have made a very positive first impression, though, managing 70 minutes of the Carabao Cup fixture.
In that time, he remained calm in possession, completing 97 per cent of his passes, created three chances, and even had a shot from inside the box [ FotMob ].
He completed 100 per cent of his two dribbles, the most of anyone, made five recoveries and two clearances, while diving into a total of eight duels.

Despite it only being his first start for Villa, fans are thoroughly impressed and certainly want to see him start against Fulham at the weekend.
The majority are still yet to be convinced, but the better obververs can see from his very limited minutes that Goretzka will take this team to the next level.
His level of calmness and experience is not something that comes along very often. Emery needs to harness that and get him in as a regular starter.
