Lille are considering legal action after the horrific injury sustained by Tiago Santos during Saturday's home match against Le Havre.
Santos was carried off on a stretcher after damaging his anterior cruciate ligament and suffering a tear of the meniscus in his right knee.
The 24-year-old picked up the injury from a dangerous tackle by Amir Richardson in the first half.
The referee gave a foul, but the Le Havre midfielder did not receive a yellow or red card for the challenge.
Lille believe he should have been shown a straight red because it was made 'from behind, uncontrolled and in a dangerous manner'.
The Ligue 1 club have asked for the incident to be referred to the disciplinary committee.
They want to know why the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) did not intervene to correct the decision.
Their statement read : "Lille are examining all possible legal avenues and reserve the right to take any legal action necessary to obtain compensation for their losses."
The injury is a big blow for Lille, who face Arsenal in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Santos started all seven games across all competitions this season, helping his team climb to second in Ligue 1 .
