It is not unusual for highly touted prospects and young superstars to face criticism from media analysts, especially when they attract as much attention as Caitlin Clark
. However, ESPN analyst Monica McNutt has repeatedly found herself at odds with Clark and her supporters since the Indiana Fever guard entered the WNBA.
McNutt's latest appearance on "The Pivot Podcast" sparked another debate after Ryan Clark asked about the negativity surrounding CC and the growth she has helped bring to the league. Rather than focusing solely on the attention Caitlin has generated, Monica leaned into the discussion about the negative experiences
other WNBA players have faced.

Her comments did not sit well with Linda Cohn, who pushed back against what she viewed as an unfair dismissal of Clark's repeated efforts to condemn racism and negativity directed towards fellow players.
"Nobody should have to deal with racist abuse, right? That is the big point I agree with. Nobody should receive threats because they play basketball. The players who experience that deserve the support; I agree with that, with Monica McNutt,"
Cohn said on her show. "But acknowledging their experience does not require us to overlook what Caitlin Clark has already said multiple times, and it certainly doesn't require us to treat her emotional exhaustion as something she has to defend."

McNutt has consistently been critical of Clark
Monica has been among the analysts questioning Caitlin's impact and place in the WNBA.
In 2024, she was also vocal about Angel Reese's case for winning ROY over CC. That same year, McNutt made a controversial claim about why Clark has become so popular among young girls, pointing to her race and background.
"I think Caitlin represented, and again, some of this to me probably is not fair to her, because it was not anything that she said or was truly based on her personality, but she was a white girl from the middle of America,"
McNutt said.

Her criticism continued into the 2026 WNBA season.
During a game in which Clark and the Indiana Fever were dominating the No. 1-seeded Lynx, Monica drew attention for focusing heavily on Minnesota's shortcomings rather than Caitlin's eventual dominant display. Naturally, fans were quick to criticize McNutt's coverage, going as far as to demand her exit from the network
.

Cohn schools McNutt
Interestingly, Clark has addressed the issue of racism and online abuse on several occasions since entering the WNBA. In June 2024, CC made it clear that she did not want people using her name to promote racist or misogynistic agendas. Moreover, she called such behavior disappointing and unacceptable while emphasizing that every player in the league deserves respect.
Then, in September 2024, after Alyssa Thomas accused Fever fans of racism and the WNBA issued a statement condemning racist comments, Caitlin reiterated her position during her exit interview, calling such heckling fans "trolls."

Cohn brought up Clark's repeated statements to challenge McNutt's position, essentially questioning how many times the three-time All-Star needed to speak out before her efforts were acknowledged.
"Are we keeping a running tally? What is the standard, Monica?"
Cohn asked . "What number would satisfy you?"
Clearly, Cohn believes that Clark has made her position on racism and discrimination clear enough, as she will not allow McNutt to criticize the Fever star unnecessarily about this topic time and time again.
