Saturday's matchup should be a competitive one, with both teams coming off winning seasons in 2025. Texas Southern finished 6-5 overall and 5-3 in SWAC play, closing the year with back-to-back victories. That included a convincing 24-7 win over conference rival Alabama A&M in the season finale. The Tigers also posted a 3-3 record at home.
North Carolina Central enters after an impressive 8-4 campaign, including a 3-2 record in conference play. The Eagles were particularly strong away from home, finishing 5-1 on the road. They won three of their final four road games, highlighted by a 33-14 victory over Morgan State.
Texas Southern and North Carolina Central will play for the first time in school history, and it will no doubt get them ready for the rest of the season. After this Saturday, Texas Southern will play in the Labor Day Classic against Prairie View A&M. North Carolina Central will host Elizabeth City State at O'Kelly-Riddick Stadium in Durham in its Hall of Fame Game.
