Liverpool Agree Luca Stephenson Sale as Bolton Add Versatile Talent

Bolton Move Rewards Luca Stephenson's Steady Progress
Liverpool have confirmed the departure of Luca Stephenson, bringing an eight year association with the club to an end as the versatile academy graduate completes a permanent move to Bolton.

Stephenson has signed a long term contract with the newly promoted Championship club, with reports indicating Liverpool will receive £700,000 for the transfer, alongside a valuable 20 percent sell on clause. It is a structure that reflects how Liverpool continue to maximise value from academy talent, even when first team opportunities do not materialise.
After arriving from Sunderland in 2018, Stephenson quietly built a reputation as one of the academy's most dependable performers, capable of filling a variety of roles across the pitch.
Senior Football Built Strong Foundations
Modern football often demands patience from young players, and Stephenson's pathway illustrates why loan moves remain so valuable.

Spells at Barrow and Dundee United gave the 22 year old regular senior football, allowing him to accumulate 101 competitive appearances before returning to Liverpool for successive pre season campaigns. Those performances attracted attention, particularly after impressing during preparations under former Liverpool head coach Arne Slot.
Despite encouraging displays in friendlies, Stephenson never featured in a competitive first team fixture. That reality says more about the level of competition at Liverpool than it does about his ability.
Dundee United had hoped to secure his services permanently, although interest from clubs in England ultimately pushed the transfer beyond their reach.
Smart Business Benefits Liverpool
Liverpool's academy has increasingly become an important part of the club's wider recruitment strategy.

Securing a transfer fee for a player entering the final year of his contract represents sensible business, particularly when combined with a 20 percent sell on clause that could generate further income in future.
Recent academy departures have followed similar patterns, allowing Liverpool to maintain an interest in players whose careers continue elsewhere.
That long term thinking has become a recurring feature of the club's transfer planning.
Championship Opportunity Awaits
Bolton gain a player with valuable experience despite his relatively young age.
Having earned promotion back to the Championship, the club are adding someone who already understands the demands of senior football and arrives ready to contribute immediately. Working under Steven Schumacher should provide another positive environment for Stephenson as he continues his development.

For Liverpool, this transfer closes one chapter while leaving open the possibility of future financial rewards. For Bolton, it represents an opportunity to add a reliable, versatile footballer with significant room for further growth.
Stephenson leaves Anfield without a competitive appearance, but with a strong professional reputation and a platform to continue building an impressive career.
