The Carolina Hurricanes are one win away from the Stanley Cup Final. Sebastian Aho provided the initial spark , but he and his teammates slammed the door shut on the Montreal Canadiens in Game 4. Logan Stankoven , Jordan Staal , and Andrei Svechnikov also scored in the 4-0 victory at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
The Hurricanes have dominated the Habs for the last three games. And Carolina smelled blood in the water. Three of their four goals came in the first period on Wednesday night. The Hurricanes kept their foot on the gas and didn't want to let the Canadiens back into this contest.
"We talked about starting like that, just keeping it simple early. Sometimes you've got to find the body blows to get to the head. I think when you can stack shifts and set up the other guys for success, good things will continue to happen," Stankoven said of his team's three-goal outburst, via team reporter Walt Ruff.
More than the offensive dominance, the Hurricanes suffocated Montreal 's stars on defense. The Canadiens finished Game 4 with fewer than 20 shots on goal. This is the third straight game Carolina has managed to keep them below 20 shots for the entire contest.
The Hurricanes have historically struggled in the East Final. Entering this series, they had just one win in their last 17 games played in the East Final. However, they are now on the doorstep of their first Stanley Cup Final appearance since 2006.
The Hurricanes will return home to host the Canadiens for Game 5 on home ice in Raleigh, North Carolina.
