LSU Tigers quarterback Sam Leavitt delivered an injury update on Tuesday as No. 14 LSU prepares for Saturday's major SEC matchup against the No. 5 Alabama Crimson Tide.
Leavitt was dealing with a hamstring issue entering LSU's bye week, but the starting quarterback said the extra recovery time helped him make significant progress before returning to game action.
"I mean, first of all is just getting the body back, you know, that was the biggest thing," Leavitt said. "Obviously the hamstring was beat up going into the week. Now I'm feeling really good out there running 100%. So, happy about that."
The Tigers quarterback revealed he also used the bye week to improve his timing and work on specific passing situations with the LSU offense.
"Just continue to fine-tune certain things, red zone throws, working fade balls, things like that with the guys — always improving timing," Leavitt said. "So I thought we did a good job during the bye week."
Leavitt's improved health comes at an important point for LSU. The Tigers enter Saturday at 6-2 and were ranked No. 14 in the first College Football Playoff rankings released Tuesday.

Despite the playoff stakes, Leavitt acknowledged LSU is keeping its focus on the immediate task, saying, "At the end of the day, we got to go win games."
