- LSU women's basketball a 2-seed in top 16 reveal. Can it get 1-seed?
BATON ROUGE — In NCAA tournament bracketology the past few weeks, LSU women's basketball has been projected as a No. 2 seed.
LSU (22-3 8-3 SEC) appears to be a near-lock for that seed line, as long as it avoids disaster over the final two weeks of the regular season. But it does beg the question: Could Kim Mulkey and the Tigers jump up to take one of the No. 1 seeds? Surely, LSU's matchup with South Carolina inside Pete Maravich Assembly Center on Saturday (7:30 p.m. CT, ABC), Feb. 14, would be a big help in that regard.
The Tigers got an official look at where they stand before the showdown with the Gamecocks (24-2, 10-1) as the NCAA selection committee revealed its top 16 seeds for the first time this season. There will be one more top 16 release on March 1 as the regular season comes to an end.
LSU-SOUTH CAROLINA PREDICTION Will LSU women's basketball beat South Carolina? Our prediction
LSU was listed as the No. 8 overall seed, confirming if the season ended today, it would be on the 2-line. But it also means there's room for the Tigers to climb up to a No. 1 seed.
A win over South Carolina at home would go a long way, but LSU would still likely need to finish at least in the SEC tournament semifinals in order to have a legitimate shot at ending up as a 1-seed in this year's NCAA tournament.
