- LSU women's basketball shakes off slow start to down Louisiana Tech
NEW ORLEANS — No speed, no pace, nothing easy in the Big Easy.
LSU women's basketball meandered through much of the opening half Saturday afternoon, missing layups while Louisiana Tech forced it to play extended defense on the other end.
Kim Mulkey matched up against her alma mater, the Lady Techsters , for the first time as LSU 's head coach inside the Smoothie King Center and earlier this week talked about the emotions for her coming into the game. Her Tigers eventually found their fight and emotion in the second half, outscoring Tech 48-31 to run away with the 87-61 victory in New Orleans.

For the first time this season, No. 5 LSU (11-0) trailed after the first quarter, as Tech led 19-17. LSU struggled against Tech's 1-3-1 zone in halfcourt sets, leading to Mulkey's squad going 6 of 14 on layups early on. To make matters more strenuous, LSU couldn't make 3s consistency either, converting at a 4 of 11 clip.
Louisiana Tech (5-4) not only took LSU out of its quick-paced game, but it kept the fire on with its hot shooting from deep. Led by Paris Bradley , who knocked down 4 of 8 3s, Tech went 10 of 29 from the behind the arc, with most of those makes coming in the first half.
In the third quarter, LSU star junior guard Mikaylah Williams and sophomore forward Kate Koval got going on offense, both scoring seven points each to help LSU move out to its largest lead of the game at that point — 13 points — with a minute to go.
Willaims led LSU with 19 points while senior star Flau'jae Johnson posted her first double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Bradley had 19 points for Louisiana Tech.
