Minnesota Lynx rookie Olivia Miles has been off to a hot start so far in her young WNBA career as the team's starting point guard. After the latest 100-72 win over the Toronto Tempo on Thursday, Miles made it clear that her budding connection with head coach Cheryl Reeve may be part of the reason for her early success.
"It's only been a few weeks of me meeting her and us building a relationship, and I feel like she'd run through a wall for me, and I'd do the same for her," Miles said.
Miles has made rookie history by scoring in double digits in every game she's played so far in the W, marking the franchise's longest streak since 2006, which has helped the Lynx keep their record above .500 despite missing star Napheesa Collier . Reeve also had to give credit to Miles in return for her on-court contributions alongside the rest of the starting lineup.
"Our starting five, they've got a really nice chemistry, and they take turns in the ways that we hit people," Reeve said.
"There was a lot of buying into the schemes that had to happen, and they trusted and didn't panic," she added.
The pair's chemistry was on full display during the game against the Tempo when Miles was called for a foul in the third quarter and signaled that she wanted it challenged, which Reeve was already in the process of doing. Miles and Reeve proved to have similar instincts, as the Lynx won the challenge.
Miles and Reeve's connection will have the chance to continue developing when the Lynx take on the Chicago Sky on Saturday.
