Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo says he is "very grateful" to head coach Michael Carrick for the faith shown in him, despite the club's recent struggles.
Mainoo was cast aside under previous United boss Ruben Amorim, subsequently pushing for a loan move to Italian side Napoli in January, but came back into the fold when Carrick first took caretaker charge later that month.
The 21-year-old England midfielder started every game he was available for under Carrick last season, and has five Premier league starts so far in 2026-27.
"I'm very grateful to the boss for putting the trust in me as soon as he came in, putting that belief in me and giving me all the advice that he has, knowing that he's been a player for this club and knows the history of this club and what it takes to win," said Mainoo.
"I take those words to heart and try to apply them every day in training and in games."
After Carrick's successful caretaker spell last season, United have just won just two games so far this campaign. Desite this, Carrick has not turned publicly on his players and Mainoo says the squad appreciates his approach.
"I feel like our way to repay that is to also be behind the manager on the pitch and off it, and fight for us as a team," he said.
The Stockport-born academy product will be taking United's current travails harder than most, but he emphasised his commitment to the club by signing a new deal until 2031 in April and wants to bring better days back to Old Trafford.
"I've been at this club for a long time and I know there's always going to be ups and downs," Mainoo said.
"It's never going to be plain sailing and smooth to the top, so you expect bumps and the best thing about it is you're able to bounce back from them.
"You can't expect the fans 100% of the time to be happy and cheering when we're not putting out results. We owe it to them to put results out there for them."
