The Sacramento Kings have a pretty solid collection of young talent on the roster for the 2026 season , which could build a solid rotation.
On that note there is one young player who may be not be in the rotation now, but could play his way into being in the rotation at some point during the regular season, and that player is rookie forward Alex Karaban .

It is important to note that Karaban was not initially selected by the Kings, as he was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the No. 29 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, but following that, he was later traded for the No. 34 overall pick as well as a future second-round pick for 2032. Nonetheless, Karaban is now on this team and has the ability to compete for playing time.
So, that begs one question. What is Karaban's path to playing time for the Kings during his rookie season?
To answer that question, let's take a look at Karaban's performance in college to see what he could bring from the college level to the NBA level .
In college, Karaban played for the UConn Huskies, which is one of the more successful collegiate programs in the entire country, and at UConn, Karaban played in three national championship games while winning two of them.

For Karaban to have that kind of experience at the collegiate level is huge and could help him to adjust more quickly than most rookies to the NBA, as he played in 151 total games in college and started in 150 of those games. Having that much experience, especially on a national championship stage, is something that could really benefit Karaban.
In addition to Karaban's experience, he was also quite productive, as he averaged 12.5 points, five rebounds, two assists, 0.7 steals, and one block per game in his career. With the production Karaban had in college, he has shown the ability to produce on both ends of the floor and should be able to continue progressing in the NBA with the Kings.
As far as Karban's efficiency goes, he was quite reliable as he shot 46.8 percent from the field, 37.4 percent from three, and 84.4 percent from the free-throw line. With that kind of efficiency, Karaban was a great scorer for the Huskies, and if he can carry it into the NBA, he could replicate that for Sacramento as well.
Additionally, Karaban has solid size, standing at 6-7 and 225 pounds, which should help him to acclimate well in the NBA and give the flexibility to defend taller wings as well as play guard and forward, which may give him the ability to fit into the lineup depending on how he performs during training camp and the preseason.

So, heading into 2026, if Karaban can utilize his experience as well as his solid size in addition to translating his efficiency from college to the NBA, Karaban could very well provide stiff competition for the Kings and possibly work himself into the rotation and contribute in his rookie season.
