The Mariners have claimed relief pitcher Isaac Mattson off waivers from the Pirates.
Mattson burst onto the scene for the Pirates last season after making three appearances for Pittsburgh in 2024. In 44 relief appearances in 2025, the right-hander went 3-3 with a 2.45 ERA. He struck out 45 batters in 47.2 innings and held opponents to a .203 batting average and a .600 OPS.
The Pirates were hoping Mattson would be able to replicate his success this year but he was not able to. The 31-year-old shuffled between the majors and Triple-A Indianapolis, totaling 38 big-league appearances. He went 0-0 with a 5.35 ERA and finished the year on the injured list due to a right hip impingement.
In 85 total appearances with Pittsburgh from 2024-26, Mattson went 3-3 with a 3.83 ERA. He'll now look to earn a spot in Seattle's bullpen and reestablish himself.
