The Seattle Mariners are letting one pitcher loose.
On Thursday, they announced that right-handed pitcher Ryan Loutos has been placed on unconditional release waivers.
This specific designation means that the Mariners don't intend for Loutos to make it into their minor league system. Instead, they're releasing him outright. He'll become a free agent who can sign with any team (assuming he isn't first claimed off waivers).
Loutos is a 6-foot-5, 27-year old reliever.
He was originally undrafted out of Division III Washington University of St. Louis.
He first made it to the major leagues with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2024, and he had a 0.00 ERA in three outings for the Cards.

In 2025, Loutos pitched both for the Los Angeles Dodgers (15.00 ERA in 2 games) and the Washington Nationals (12.00 ERA in 10 games).
His Triple-A stats in 2025 were much better -- a 3.50 ERA in 38 games.
Loutos joined the Mariners in the offseason and had an 18.00 ERA in four Spring Training outings.
He hasn't actually pitched in the regular season yet in the majors or the minors.
Now, he'll be looking for a new uniform to call his own.
It's a logical enough move for the Mariners, who have too many moving parts around their 40-man roster to keep Loutos around any longer.
