Mariners rumors: If Seattle's struggles continue, this starting pitcher could be on the move appeared first on ClutchPoints . Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here .
The Seattle Mariners have been cold to begin the 2026 season , to say the least. With a 10-15 record through the first 25 games, changes might need to be made before the trade deadline. Rumors are already floating around after an insider for ESPN floated the idea of the club trading one of its starting pitchers to switch things up.
In a column published on ESPN on Monday, MLB insider David Schoenfield suggested the Mariners could opt to trade Logan Gilbert before the deadline. Schoenfield argues that, if the struggles continue, dealing away Gilbert could be in play due to the strong pitching depth the franchise has on the roster and in the farm system. The 28-year-old right-hander would certainly fetch an intriguing return to potentially improve the team.
"Logan Gilbert. He won't reach free agency until after the 2027 season, but there's a potential scenario where Gilbert is available even if it's not an 'everything has gone wrong' scenario," said Schoenfield. " Emerson Hancock has remade his repertoire and lowered his arm slot, and he now looks like an above-average starter. If Bryce Miller gets healthy and Kade Anderson continues to dominate in the minors, the Mariners might have enough rotation depth to make a splashy deal here."
It's an idea that could potentially work for the short and long term. The Mariners' rotation behind Gilbert is strong, even with Miller on the 15-day IL. Bryan Woo , George Kirby , Luis Castillo , and Emerson Hancock make for a strong four with Gilbert leading the way as the ace.
The Mariners' woes seem to be more at the plate than on the mound this season, as the club's superstars are performing under par. We'll see how things play out, as the trade deadline isn't until August 3.
Gilbert has five starts on the season already. He owns a 4.03 ERA and 1.172 WHIP with 32 strikeouts through 29.0 innings pitched.
