Martin Kaymer has confirmed he underwent a second surgery within just two months, sharing a photo from his hospital bed along with a cryptic update about his recovery timeline. The 41-year-old German star, who served as a team captain for Cleeks GC during LIV Golf's inaugural 2022 season, addressed the medical procedure on Friday. He stated that the latest operation will not interfere with his ongoing recovery from shoulder surgery, which he first announced on Sept. 18 following what he called a "challenging year."
The two-time major winner, known for sinking a crucial six-foot putt at Medinah Country Club to seal Europe's 2012 Ryder Cup victory, is now looking toward a full return to competition. According to reports, Kaymer posted a message on Instagram expressing hope that this latest procedure marks the end of his immediate medical struggles. "Hopefully, that's the last of the repairs for a while," the LIV Golfer said. He further outlined his goal to be competition-ready by the start of the next calendar year, stating, "Looking forward to starting 2027 fully recovered and ready to play wherever it might be!"

Context Behind the Recovery
While Kaymer focuses on his health, his position within LIV Golf has become increasingly complicated as the league faces significant instability. In June 2026, the 41-year-old achieved his finest outcome, sharing 24th place in the individual Andalucia competition. An elbow injury caused him to skip the Adelaide event, leaving him ranked 53rd in the league's individual standings at season's end. These results come as the organization navigates a period of serious uncertainty, with several top-tier stars announcing their departures.
Reports from AOL.com indicate that LIV Golf's future is in serious jeopardy as many prominent players have chosen to leave. Sergio Garcia, Ian Poulter, Tyrrell Hatton, and Jon Rahm have each declared they are leaving or switching to other tours. Among those departing are Kaymer's former Ryder Cup partners, Graeme McDowell and Poulter, who have separately stated their 2027 season intentions.
Confusion Surrounding LIV Departures
The uncertainty facing Kaymer and his peers is mirrored by the chaotic exit of Sergio Garcia, whose recent announcement to return to the DP World Tour sparked controversy. Eddie Pepperell, who remains on the DP World Tour, reacted strongly to Garcia's decision. The 35-year-old Englishman questioned the authenticity of Garcia's statement on X, writing, "This has to be Sergio trolling us? Surely. Elite level s———-, this. Or has he got dementia?"

Pepperell later clarified his comments on X., explaining that his criticism was not aimed at Garcia's golfing ability. He confessed that, while growing up, he favored the Spaniard even more than Tiger Woods. However, he remained skeptical about Garcia's self-awareness regarding the move.
Kaymer's path forward involves a long rehabilitation process before he can compete again. His target date of early 2027 suggests he will miss the remainder of the current LIV Golf season and likely the start of the next. With the league restructuring and stars leaving, the landscape for his return remains unclear. He has not specified which tour he will join once he is fully recovered, leaving the "wherever it might be" part of his statement open to interpretation.
For now, the focus remains on his physical recovery rather than the business turmoil surrounding LIV Golf. The German star's resilience is evident, having overcome the initial shoulder surgery to undergo a second procedure without losing hope. His statement to AOL.com confirms that he is looking forward to the 2027 season, but the destination for his return remains to be seen. Fans will be watching to see if he can regain his peak form after these two surgeries in such a short timeframe.
