It's not entirely clear yet what Matt Ryan 's new role in the Atlanta Falcons ' front office entails. He's not a general manager, but the NFL didn't award Chicago comp picks when the Falcons hired Ian Cunningham, so they must believe Ryan is at least somewhat critical to personnel decisions.
What we do know is that Ryan is taking an active role on the field. According to a report by ESPN , Ryan hasn't missed a Falcons OTAs practice yet and has been throwing to receivers in drills.
"No, Matt Ryan will not be suiting up for real, but the President of Football has been more hands-on than expected. He was here at practice throwing the ball to receivers during a drill, and that is not an isolated incident. Several players said that Ryan has been to every single practice so far this spring and Tua Tagovailoa said that he has even poked his head into the quarterback room several times."
It's too early to judge how Ryan and Cunningham are shaping Atlanta's roster, but this is one area we know that Ryan will make a positive impact. His extensive experience - having appeared in 234 career games and winning an NFL MVP award at his best - will be invaluable to Tagovailoa, Michael Penix , Trevor Siemian , Jack Strand and any other quarterbacks the Falcons bring in.
Whether or not it will translate into more wins remains to be seen...
