Matthias Jaissle must be ready to give Kyran Thompson his senior Newcastle debut as he makes waves on Tyneside at youth level.
Newcastle bounced back from successive defeats to beat Crystal Palace 2-0 last weekend in a much-improved performance.
Doubts remain over Jaissle's long-term future at the club as they struggle for consistency, but the pressure will be knocked down a notch as they travel to Everton on Thursday in the Carabao Cup.
The Merseyside clash offers him the chance to rotate and get more out of some fringe players before they return to league action against Everton next Monday.
Young attacker Thompson deserves the chance to show what he can do at first-team level after Jaissle promoted him to the senior squad for the first time against Hull last month.
The 17-year-old has been excelling at under-21 level since a summer move from Arsenal, and is clearly part of the long-term plans at St James' Park.
Kyran Thompson should make his Newcastle debut vs Everton
Thompson only turned 17 in September, but is already proving to be too much for lower league senior stars to handle in the EFL Trophy and National League Cup.
The versatile winger registered a goal and an assist against League Two outfit York City in the former competition last month, while also winning eight duels, making nine ball recoveries and creating one other chance.
Jaissle gave Thompson a taste of first-team action as he watched on from the bench in their 2-1 win over Hull four days later, proving that he is well aware of the talent the youngster possesses.
He has since scored twice against Hartlepool in the National League Cup, where he impressed in an unfamiliar central midfield role, and also bagged against Sunderland's under-21s on Monday in a Premier League 2 derby win.
Thompson also created three chances from attacking midfield against the Black Cats, and while he clearly needs refining at just 17 years old, it seems obvious for Jaissle to give him a senior debut at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Thompson is all about creating in the final third, which is clearly something that Jaissle is struggling to help his team do this season.
Newcastle are 16th in the Premier League for big chances created as a team so far (14), as well as 16th for expected goals scored (9.1) and 17th for shots on target per match (3.4).
None of their senior wide men have consistently impressed, with Harvey Barnes and Anthony Elanga each in the bottom 55 per cent for chances created per 90 by Premier League wingers, while Jacob Murphy has one assist in nine appearances across all competitions.
