Newcastle United head coach Matthias Jaissle has praised Joelinton's character and importance to the squad, describing the Brazilian midfielder as the type of "warrior" the club needs as they continue to develop under their new head coach.
Joelinton has established himself as one of Newcastle's most influential players since arriving at St James' Park, transforming from a striker into a powerful and versatile midfielder. His physicality, aggression and ability to cover ground have made him an important component of Newcastle's midfield, while his willingness to compete for every ball has made him a popular figure among supporters.

For Jaissle, those qualities are particularly valuable as he looks to implement his demanding style of football.
The German coach has placed significant emphasis on intensity, aggressive pressing and winning the ball back quickly. That approach requires players who are willing to put their bodies on the line, compete in duels and maintain their physical levels throughout matches.
Joelinton fits that profile perfectly.
The Brazilian's ability to combine his physical presence with technical quality also gives Jaissle tactical flexibility. He can operate as part of a midfield three, play in a more advanced position or contribute defensively when Newcastle are required to protect possession and control the middle of the pitch.

His importance is not simply measured by goals and assists either.
Joelinton's contribution often comes through the less glamorous aspects of the game — winning challenges, disrupting opposition attacks, pressing defenders and creating space for teammates. Those characteristics make him particularly valuable in a Newcastle side attempting to play on the front foot.
Jaissle's description of Joelinton as a "warrior" is therefore a reflection of what he wants from his players.
The Newcastle head coach has inherited a squad with plenty of technical ability, but the physical and mental demands of his football require players prepared to fight for the team. Joelinton represents that mentality.

His development at Newcastle has also been one of the more remarkable stories of the modern era. Having initially faced considerable criticism following his move to the club, the Brazilian gradually reinvented himself and became a key midfield presence.
That resilience is another reason why he remains so highly regarded inside the club.
As Newcastle attempt to establish themselves among the Premier League's leading sides and compete across multiple competitions, players such as Joelinton could prove crucial. Long seasons inevitably bring injuries, fixture congestion and difficult periods, and having experienced players capable of setting the tone can make a significant difference.
For Jaissle, Joelinton is not simply another option in midfield. He is a player who embodies the competitive mentality the head coach wants throughout his squad.

With Newcastle continuing to adapt to the demands of the Jaissle era, Joelinton's role could become even more important. His physical presence, versatility and willingness to compete make him ideally suited to the high-intensity football Newcastle are looking to establish.
And if Jaissle can get the best out of the Brazilian, Newcastle could have one of the Premier League's most effective midfield warriors leading the charge.
