The Dallas Mavericks are entering a new era of their organization, and they're getting rid of the old while trying to bring in some fresh faces. Their latest move showed that, as Jason Kidd was surprisingly fired as head coach, even though he had several years remaining on his contract.
Kidd has had success with the Mavericks over the years and even led them to the NBA Finals two seasons ago. Unfortunately, things went down the drain when Luka Doncic was traded last season. Since then, several people have been let go by the Mavericks, and Kidd joined that group.
Masai Ujiri was asked if the Doncic trade had any effect on what happened with Kidd.
"That trade has played no part in how we've thought about anything," Ujiri said via Ron Harrod Jr. of DLLS Mavs. "I'm in no position to criticize or blame or even investigate…"
It's obvious that the Mavericks are trying to build something new with the people they have in the organization, and getting that bad taste of the Doncic trade could've been a goal. The aftermath of that trade was not the best, but what they did get out of it was Cooper Flagg , who is set to be the face of the franchise.
The next step for the Mavericks is to find a new head coach , and they already have two candidates in mind, according to NBA insider Marc Stein.
"The top candidates to replace Kidd were not immediately apparent Tuesday night, but San Antonio 's Sean Sweeney and Minnesota 's Micah Nori — widely regarded around the league as future head coaches — are both known quantities in Dallas," Stein wrote.
If the Mavericks are looking for coaches who can lead a young group of players, Sweeney and Nori may be the perfect candidates.
