Mavericks rumors: Will Jason Kidd replace Nico Harrison as Dallas' general manager? appeared first on ClutchPoints . Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here .
The Dallas Mavericks currently have a vacancy at their general manager position as the 2025-26 NBA season winds down, with Dallas heading for a second straight year in the NBA draft lottery. That vacancy was opened when the team fired Nico Harrison , who became infamous for the disastrous Luka Doncic trade, earlier this year.
Recently, Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated stopped by FanDuel's "Run It Back" show to discuss how the Mavericks' next general manager might already be on their sidelines.
"I wouldn't dismiss Jason Kidd as a candidate for this job. Jason Kidd is very well respected for what he's done in Dallas, and he's very well liked by ownership, and if he wasn't the head coach of this team, doing a great job of developing Cooper Flagg , he might be in consideration more strongly," said Mannix, per Run It Back on X, formerly Twitter.
"I think the only thing holding Jason Kidd back or preventing him from being a real candidate for this job is the fact that Dallas wants to keep him on the bench and wants to keep some stability for Cooper Flagg in his second year in the NBA, but I would still keep my eye on that," he said.
At this point, it's unclear whether hiring Kidd to the general manager position would prevent him from also holding a dual role as the coach, but historically, people who have tried to juggle both roles haven't fared well in the NBA.
Kidd has indeed done a strong job of helping out Flagg in his development thus far, and although his expertise could certainly be used in the front office, it seems that the Mavericks want to keep him on their sidelines well into the future.
