Jake McCarthy proved to be a valuable asset not only in the outfield but at the plate, too, for the Colorado Rockies this season. Can he provide a repeat performance or even do better in 2027?
Let's leave that question alone for down the road. Yet reviewing what McCarthy did, despite the Rockies' poor overall record, reveals some pretty good data and offers hope for the future.

McCarthy, Colorado's left fielder, finished with a slash line of .291/.334/.475 with 15 home runs and 83 RBIs. He walked 35 times while striking out at 95 at-bats. To add to his offensive numbers, McCarthy had 30 doubles and 13 triples.
Toss in 32 stolen bases, too, and he's proven to be an all-around player that the Rockies need to keep around for a while.
McCarthy put up great statistics
He went to the University of Virginia to play college baseball, then was a CB-A pick (No. 39 overall) by the Arizona Diamondbacks back in 2018.
According to Baseball Savant , in the 2026 MLB Percentile Rankings, McCarthy finished in the "great" level in baserunning run value, xBA, LA Sweet-Spot percentage, strikeout percentage, and sprint speed.

Talk about a potpourri of data that shows how much McCarthy helped Colorado last season. This is the type of player that Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer can slot into the lineup and watch him play all-out for the team.
McCarthy played his first five seasons in Arizona before joining Colorado. He's still young and can become a fixture for the Rockies, becoming part of a nucleus of players president of baseball operations Paul DePodesta can wrap around slugging catcher Hunter Goodman .
Rockies can use him in nucleus
That's the type of solid offensive structure Colorado can collect and put on the field during Spring Training, which allows Schaeffer time to tweak that nucleus before the 2027 MLB season officially starts.

When hitting home runs this season, McCarthy sent balls over the right-field wall with a lot of consistency. But he also was able to spray his hits around the field, too, making sure opposing outfielders had to stay aware when McCarthy was at the plate.
Don't let the 100-plus-loss season streak that Colorado is on right now take away from what McCarthy has accomplished. He, Goodman, Cole Carrigg, TJ Rumfield , and Mickey Moniak, if they all stay healthy, just might strike some fear in opposing pitchers.
Still, the Rockies' left fielder has to come into next season ready to put up similar or better numbers in 2027.
