Mets end 12-game losing streak, but bad omen dampens the moment appeared first on ClutchPoints . Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here .
The New York Mets finally found relief Wednesday night, beating the Minnesota Twins 3–2 at Citi Field to snap a 12-game losing streak. The win marked the Mets’ first victory since April 7 and improved their record to 8–16, though it did little to erase the damage from a brutal opening stretch.
Juan Soto ’s return gave the Mets lineup a needed lift. After missing time with a calf strain, Soto rejoined the Mets and went 1-for-3 with a walk. His presence brought balance back to the offense and offered a needed spark for a team that had struggled to generate consistent production.
Momentum took a hit in the fourth inning when Francisco Lindor exited with left calf tightness. The shortstop departed shortly after scoring from first on Francisco Alvarez’s go-ahead double. Lindor had remained one of the team’s most reliable bats during the skid, making his sudden exit a pressing concern despite the win.
ESPN Insights shared a sobering note on X, formerly Twitter, shortly after the final out, pointing to the historical challenge the Mets now face even after finally ending the slide.
“The Mets’ 3-2 win snaps a 12-game losing streak, but their postseason hopes face a historic obstacle…
The previous 138 teams with a 12-game skid in the World Series era all missed the postseason.”
The game itself still required late execution. With the score tied 2–2 in the eighth inning, Mark Vientos delivered the go-ahead RBI single. The bullpen protected the narrow lead from there, sealing a win the Mets desperately needed after nearly two weeks without one.
Even so, the bigger picture remains complicated. The losing streak is over, but the Mets still face a steep climb in the standings, and Lindor’s injury clouds whatever momentum the win created. For now, the victory brought relief. Whether it becomes a turning point is the question that comes next.
