The New York Mets have lost 11 consecutive games after a walk-off loss to the Chicago Cubs on Sunday. This is the first time since 2004 that they have lost 11 straight, and a season with high expectations is toiling quickly. After Sunday’s loss, Francisco Lindor outlined what awaits the Mets when they return to Citi Field on Tuesday.
“It’s gonna get loud. It’s gonna get very loud. Everyone here knows it. Everyone here knows it. We’ve gotta stick together. And fight. Fight,” Lindor said, per John Harper of SNY.
The Mets’ losing streak started at home , dropping two games to the Arizona Diamondbacks and three to the Athletics in front of home fans. But things have gotten ugly on the road, with sweeps at the hands of the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Cubs. Two National League contenders swept the Amazins out of the building without much pushback.
In the comments of that post, many Mets fans pushed back at the fact that they would boo at Citi Field. They wanted Lindor to know they won’t be showing up at all. With a historically expensive roster and a new casino going in across the street, parking and ticket prices have soared in Queens. And losing streaks like this make those prices harder to stomach.
Lindor has been a part of the problem for the Mets, posting a .205 batting average and a .600 OPS in the first 22 games. Juan Soto has not played at all during this losing streak, putting more pressure on Lindor offensively. He has not lived up to that billing and will be the target of many boos on Tuesday.
Could there be changes with the Mets roster or coaching staff before Tuesday’s game? They have an off day to make any moves before the Minnesota Twins come to Queens for three games.
