- Mets Release Veteran Outfielder Mike Tauchman After Injury Recovery
The New York Mets have released veteran outfielder Mike Tauchman from the organization, ending his brief stint with the club after he spent the season working back from a knee injury in the minor leagues. Independent baseball insider Francys Romero first reported the move Wednesday.
Tauchman had signed a minor league contract with the Mets before the season, meaning his departure did not require a corresponding 40-man roster move. The veteran outfielder now becomes a minor league free agent.

The move comes as New York continues its regular-season series against the Cleveland Guardians . The Mets entered the week with a 48-66 record, sitting last in the National League East while visiting the Guardians, who entered play at 57-57 in the American League Central.
Tauchman never appeared in a major league game for New York after suffering a torn meniscus in his left knee during Spring Training on March 22. The injury required surgery and sidelined the 35-year-old for more than four months before he returned to full baseball activities.

Prior to the injury, Tauchman was competing for a regular outfield role after signing a minor league deal in February. Although he returned healthy, the Mets ultimately chose to move on from the veteran as part of their post-trade deadline organizational adjustments.

The decision further reflects the Mets' continued emphasis on allocating playing time to younger players throughout the organization during the final two months of the season.
Now a free agent, Tauchman is eligible to sign with another organization as he looks to continue his professional career. The veteran outfielder brings multiple seasons of major league experience and could attract interest from clubs seeking experienced organizational depth down the stretch.
