Mets signing Justin Turner or Wilmer Flores has a serious case to be made originally appeared on The Sporting News . Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here .
The New York Mets have dealt with such a combination of injuries and ineffectiveness this season, and their fanbase is getting restless.
Things are so tough that two players that were discarded by MLB, Justin Turner and Wilmer Flores , could both make sense for the Mets right now.
This is what a Mets analyst posted on X, and he's not wrong:

Turner and Flores are both playing for Tijuana in Mexico.
The 41-year old Turner has a .944 OPS in Mexico right now. He spent the 2025 season with the Chicago Cubs , for whom he struggled.
Flores is 34 years old now, and he has a .986 OPS so far this season with Tijuana. He most recently played for the San Francisco Giants in 2025.
Neither Turner nor Flores have a ton of athleticism left at this point in their careers, and their bats weren't amazing last season, but they've got long track records.
It seems both would consider returns to MLB if an opportunity were given.
To be clear, the Mets haven't made any reported offers to this point. But it could be something worth considering. They need a spark from somewhere, even if it's from an old guy or two.
