- Miami Dolphins rookie power rankings entering Week 5
Four games into a winless season, the Miami Dolphins have received something more valuable than a quick fix from their rookie class. They have received evidence that several young players are cementing themselves into the team's foundation.
Miami enters Week 5 at 0-4 after a 15-10 loss at Minnesota, but the record has not kept the rookies from taking on major assignments. First-year players are starting along the offensive line, at linebacker and throughout the secondary. Others are growing into larger roles as injuries and a rebuilding roster force the Dolphins to accelerate their development.

These rankings weigh production, snap load, difficulty of assignment and momentum through the first four games. They are not a projection of long-term ceiling. They are a snapshot of which rookies have mattered most right now.
1. Linebacker Jacob Rodriguez
Rodriguez has become the standard for this rookie class. He leads Miami with 46 tackles, including three tackles for loss, and has added an interception while handling 246 defensive snaps. The most telling number is his workload. Rodriguez has played every defensive snap in three games and 92% in the other, making him more than a promising rookie. He is already one of the defense's central pieces.

2. Safety Michael Taaffe
Taaffe has supplied steadiness in a secondary built on youth. He has 28 tackles, a pass breakup and an interception while playing 225 defensive snaps. His role expanded to every snap in Weeks 3 and 4, and he has shown the range and awareness required to keep mistakes from becoming explosive plays. On a defense that has spent too much time on the field, reliability carries weight.
3. Cornerback Chris Johnson
Few positions punish a rookie faster than cornerback, yet Johnson has answered a full starting workload. He has logged 240 defensive snaps, second among Miami defenders, with 25 tackles, two tackles for loss and two passes defended. He has endured difficult matchups and the inevitable growing pains, but his willingness to compete outside and in the slot gives the Dolphins flexibility they badly need.

4. Guard Kadyn Proctor
Proctor has played all 227 offensive snaps through four games, an immediate return on Miami's first-round investment. Offensive line play is difficult to isolate from the failures around it, especially for a group that has allowed 11 sacks and produced only 11.5 points per game. Still, Proctor's availability, power and ability to survive a demanding early schedule make him the highest-ranked offensive rookie.
5. Safety Dante Trader Jr.
Trader has made the most of a significant role. He has 19 tackles, two passes defended and one of Miami's three interceptions while playing 176 defensive snaps. His playing time dipped to 67% against Minnesota after two heavier weeks, but his ball production keeps him in the upper half of the rankings. The next step is turning flashes into down-to-down consistency.

6. Defensive tackle Jordan Phillips
Phillips has worked as a regular member of the interior rotation, playing 153 defensive snaps and adding eight tackles with a tackle for loss. His statistical line is modest, but defensive tackle impact is often measured by the space a player occupies and the freedom he creates for linebackers. A 59% share of the defensive snaps in Week 4 showed the staff continues to trust him.
7. Tight end Will Kacmarek
Kacmarek's value has shown up more in responsibility than receiving totals. He has played 96 offensive snaps and 39 more on special teams, catching two passes for 19 yards. His blocking helped him earn a season-high 62% of the offensive snaps against Minnesota. That kind of role may not generate headlines, but it can keep a rookie on the field for years.

8. Wide receiver Kevin Coleman Jr.
Coleman has yet to break through statistically, catching two of 10 targets for 6 yards, but his opportunity has grown. He played more than half the offensive snaps in each of the past two games and has logged 108 for the season. Miami needs more efficiency from every part of its passing game. Coleman can climb quickly if his increasing workload begins producing first downs and explosive plays.
Week 5 outlook
The Dolphins host Cincinnati on Sunday with a chance to turn developmental progress into a result. Miami's rookies cannot solve every problem on a roster that ranks last in scoring, but they can continue changing the shape of the season.

Rodriguez has already become the player offenses must account for in the middle. Taaffe, Johnson and Trader are learning together in the secondary. Proctor is absorbing every snap on an offense searching for stability. Their mistakes remain visible because their roles are so large, but so does their growth.
For a team at 0-4, that is the tension of relying on rookies. Miami needs them to develop for tomorrow while playing well enough to win today.
