During the 2012 NFL Draft, the Rams – then in St. Louis – looked to bolster their defensive line by adding LSU's Michael Brockers in the first round. Brockers enjoyed a highly successful career, helping the team transition while playing a massive role in Sean McVay's early success with the franchise.
Recently, Brockers spoke about his time with the team during an interview with Jim Rome. During their talk, Brockers recalled the first time he met franchise legend Steven Jackson and how he was taken aback by Jackson's size, believing he was one of his teammates in the trenches.
"When I first got to the Rams, I thought Steven Jackson was a defensive end, I'm not gonna lie," said Brockers. "I never saw his face, to be honest with you, and I seen him in a facility one time walking, I'm like, 'Oh man, that must be the guy that's starting in front of me or starting next to me.' And then he sat down at his locker, and I was like, 'This dude is huge.' I didn't realize he was just big in person."
At 6-foot-2, 240 pounds, Jackson towered over his fellow running backs, and it was his frame that allowed his physical style of play to flourish for as long as it did. Jackson played nine years for the franchise, recording eight 1,000-yard seasons. Helping the franchise seemingly transition from Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk, Jackson was the bright spot in what was a tough end to the team's time in St. Louis.
