Halloween may have been a few days ago, but the Michigan State availability report looks scarier than any horror movie you may have watched throughout the month of October.
There is really no downplaying how rough this season has been when it comes to injuries. The Spartans have battled through the next-man-up philosophy week after week, but from the very beginning, it has felt like a curse has been placed upon the program.
Week in and week out, Michigan State has watched more injuries pile up, pushing the team to the brink of disaster. However, every week, another player would step up and give the Spartans a fighting chance.
This week, it seems like everything has finally come tumbling down, with a slew of injuries piling up ahead of the biggest rivalry game of the season.
Listed below are the players already deemed out for the Michigan-Michigan State rivalry game.
Michigan State Football Injury Report
Out
-
RB #0 – Cam Edwards
-
QB #2 – Cam Fancher
-
CB #3 – Tre Bell
-
RB #4 – Jaziun Patterson
-
CB #4 – Charles Brantley
-
LB #5 – Jordan Hall
-
RB #21 – Marvis Parrish
-
S #28 – Brayden Thomas
-
TE #31 – Jayden Savoury
-
FB #44 – Jay Coyne
-
DL #55 – Ben Roberts
-
OL #79 – Tristan Comer
-
TE #87 – Joe Caudill
The list is as brutal as anyone could have imagined. Michigan State will already be without its top three running backs, two cornerbacks, its top linebacker , top tight end , starting fullback, a key defensive lineman, and its backup quarterback.
In fact, there aren't many position groups that won't be affected by the absences, making an already difficult rivalry matchup that much tougher for the Spartans.
The addition of Marvis Parrish, the third-string running back, and Jayden Savoury, the team's top tight end, to the list of unavailable players is another devastating blow to Spartan fans hoping and praying for an upset this Saturday.
One thing that could certainly help Michigan State remain within striking distance is having its starting quarterback available. Alessio Milivojevic, who missed the team's last game against UCLA, is listed on the availability report but is currently deemed questionable.
The Spartans' questionable players are as follows:
Questionable
-
S #2 – Devin Vaught
-
QB #11 – Alessio Milivojevic
-
WR #19 – Charles Taplin
-
CB #20 – Keshawn Williams
-
CB #22 – Tyran Chappell
Michigan State needs Milivojevic to play more than just about anyone else, especially with the massive number of players already ruled out four days before the game.
On top of that, the Spartans desperately need help in the secondary. Keshawn Williams and Tyran Chappell have missed the previous few games, and getting either of them back in action would be a major boost. Having Devin Vaught, one of the team's top secondary players, available would also be monumental.
It's going to be a gritty game against Michigan at the Big House on Saturday, and Michigan State is going to have to dig deep and ask a lot from its younger players.
The injury report is certainly frightening, but the Spartans will have to find a way to overcome the adversity one more time if they hope to pull off an upset against their biggest rival.
