Michigan Wolverines coach Kyle Whittingham made the program's quarterback hierarchy, including Bryce Underwood and Tommy Carr, during his Monday media availability.
According to multiple reporters at Whittingham's weekly press conference, the Wolverines will keep Tommy Carr as their starter for this week's rivalry game against the Michigan State Spartans and for the "foreseeable future."
Whittingham's decision is another blow to Underwood, who opened the season as Michigan's starting quarterback but has now been moved behind Carr for two straight games.
Carr strengthened his grip on the job in Saturday's 28-21 win over Rutgers, throwing for 266 yards and a touchdown while adding 54 rushing yards and two more scores on the ground.
"He's a tough kid," Whittingham said after the game. "Talk about a guy who's as tough as nails. Tommy Carr is, both mentally and physically."
Whittingham also revealed that Carr battled the flu during the week, not missing one practice.
"He wasn't feeling good at all, particularly, I think it was the Thursday practice," Whittingham said. "He was out there battling and didn't miss a beat. He was pretty sick at some points in the week."
Carr has now started Michigan's past two games, going 1-1 against Indiana and Rutgers. He has completed 71.2% of his passes for 433 yards, one touchdown and one interception while adding 60 rushing yards and two scores across those two starts.

Underwood began the year as the Wolverines starter before being benched for the second half against Penn State on Oct. 17. Carr replaced him and ran for the game-winning touchdown in Michigan's 21-18 comeback victory.
Underwood then remained behind Carr and supported him during the overtime loss to Indiana and last week's win over Rutgers.
Michigan is 5-3 overall and hosts Michigan State on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
