As 4.5-point favorites against Iowa , the Michigan Wolverines enter the matchup with a slight edge, perhaps in talent and with home field advantage. Iowa's passing offense ranks near the bottom of the FBS at No. 90 nationally, leaving their newly-named QB1 Hank Brown vulnerable to a physical Michigan pass rush capable of dictating terms on third down. If Iowa is forced to drop back against long yardage situations, edge rusher Dom Nichols and John Henry Daley will be positioned for a dominant afternoon.
Dom Nichols — The Crazy One
At 6-5, 245-pounds, Dom Nichols brings an ideal length-to-power frame to Michigan's defensive front . Known for his athleticism, size and never-quit effort, Nichols excels at converting speed to power on the edge. His teammates have called him crazy multiple times, which is exactly what you want a pass rusher to be.

-
Strengths: High-motor player with a violent long-arm move and strong edge setting against the run. His length enables him to disengage quickly and disrupt quarterbacks even when he doesn't notch a clean sack.
-
Fit against Iowa: Iowa relies heavily on traditional drop-back protection concepts and they do it very well. Nichols' ability to get around the edge in a hurry will disrupt Iowa's timing routes and force uncomfortable early releases.
John Henry Daley — The High-Motor Force
Standing 6-5 and 252 pounds, Utah transfer John Henry Daley — nicknamed "The Vanilla Gorilla" — provides high-end pass-rush technique and game-breaking strength and athleticism off the edge. Daley brings prove high-level production, heaving recorded 11.5 sacks in 2025 before transferring to Michigan.
-
Strengths: Exceptional pass rush moves to get around the edge or spin back inside, elite dip-and-rip skills and explosive first-step quickness off the line of scrimmage. Daley consistently wins round-the-corner reps and can easily counter back inside if a tackle leans too far outside. Daley is solid and strong and finishes plays with high-impact tackles on backs and quarterbacks.
-
Fit against Iowa: Iowa's pass protection can struggle against pure speed and edge bend. Daley's explosive get-off will strain Iowa's offensive tackles, creating prime opportunities for strip-sacks and multi-sack production.
Game Outlook
With Iowa's passing game struggling to stretch the field vertically, wide receiver Tony Diaz has racked up a lot of catches in the intermediate and short zones. Michigan could and should tilt coverage forward and let their pass rushers pin their ears back. Nichols and Daley both can win with speed, power, bend and technique. Expect this duo to control the edges and get hands on Brown multiple times. Michigan should be able to cover the spread in a low-scoring, defensive affair.
