Mike Dean has given his thoughts following Dominic Calvert-Lewin's disallowed goal in Leeds United's clash with Bournemouth.
Calvert-Lewin thought he had given Leeds an early lead in Saturday afternoon's Premier League clash at the Vitality Stadium.
The England international put the ball into the back of the net with 12 minutes on the clock.
However, referee Michael Salisbury ruled it out after VAR intervened on the South Coast.
Djordje Petrovic kept out Calvert-Lewin's initial effort, which the striker should have done better with, before the ball came back off him and into the net.
But the ball hit the 29-year-old on the arm, leading to the intervention.
Premier League announcement on disallowed Calvert-Lewin goal
The Premier League, as is customary, put out an announcement via their Match Centre account on X to explain why the goal was ruled out.
"VAR checked the referee's call of goal to Leeds United – and determined that Calvert-Lewin handled the ball immediately before scoring and recommended that the goal was disallowed," the announcement read.
"VAR: 'The ball accidentally comes off Dominic Calvert-Lewin's left arm before going directly into the goal'.
"REF: 'After review, the ball strikes the arm of leads No.9 - the final decision is free-kick'.
Former Premier League referee Dean, speaking live on Sky Sports, was asked for his immediate reaction to the disallowed goal.
"I think it's caught him on the inside of the bicep. It looks like a handball from behind the goal," Dean said.
Michael Dawson initially felt the decision to rule out the goal was harsh, but he changed hid view after seeing multiple replays.
Sean Longstaff's Leeds United mind should be made up as team news drops vs Bournemouth Calvert-Lewin makes landmark Leeds appearance
Calvert-Lewin was playing his 50th game for Leeds in the clash with Bournemouth.
The former Everton striker will perhaps be disappointed with himself for not taking the initial chance, which then went in off his arm.
That miss, and the subsequent decision to rule out Calvert-Lewin's goal, proved costly when Bournemouth took the lead through Evanilson.
As frustrating as it was, the officials ultimately made the right call and it is just one of those Leeds have to deal with.
