The San Francisco 49ers are in quite the pickle with Brandon Aiyuk . San Francisco's veteran wide receiver has played his last snaps for the organization. Unfortunately, that does not make the future any clearer for Aiyuk. One NFL insider pushed back on some erroneous reporting about the situation.
NFL Network's Mike Garafolo pushed back on the idea that Aiyuk's agent, Ryan Williams, has abandoned his client during a recent interview.
"[Williams] has not dropped [Aiyuk]," Garafolo said on The Rich Eisen Show. "He still represents him, he did not abandon him. He was part of the group of people trying to tell him what was going to happen in San Francisco if he didn't show up. [Aiyuk] did not heed that advice. But whatever information led to that report of Aiyuk's agent dropping him is not accurate."
Rumors have circulated about Williams dropping Aiyuk as he remains away from the 49ers. Aiyuk has yet to publicly declare what his next move might be.
The Commanders have not hid their interest in Aiyuk , making them a natural possibility as a landing spot for the veteran receiver. However, the 49ers and Commanders appear to be at a stalemate . Washington would seemingly prefer for San Francisco to release Aiyuk, freeing him from his current contract. Meanwhile, Sans Francisco would prefer to trade Aiyuk to get rid of his contract and possibly get something valuable in return.
But Aiyuk's lack of communication with his agent has clearly also played a big role in the drama.
"He is still his agent of record and still sounds like would be willing to facilitate something if Aiyuk would just tell him what he wants to do right now," Garafolo concluded.
It will be interesting to see when Aiyuk finally breaks his radio silence and makes a decision about his future.
