Mike McCarthy continues to fill out his staff of assistants. The new Pittsburgh Steelers head coach has figured out who his defensive coordinator and receivers coach will be, along with deciding to retain linebackers coach Scott McCurley, defensive backs coach Gerald Alexander and quarterbacks coach Tom Arth from Mike Tomlin's staff.
Now, McCarthy is reportedly set to bring on someone to lead the big guys up front on the offensive side of the ball.
"The #Steelers are set to hire veteran offensive line coach James Campen, sources tell @CBSSports," CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz wrote Thursday on X. "Campen, an ex-NFL offensive lineman who made 50 career starts, was new Pittsburgh head coach Mike McCarthy's offensive line coach in Green Bay from 2007-18."
Campen played in the league from 1987-93, and spent the majority of his odyssey with the Green Bay Packers .
Campen became the Packers' assistant offensive line coach in 2004 and was held over by McCarthy when Mike Sherman was fired in 2006. In 2007, McCarthy made Campen his offensive line coach, a position he held for 11 seasons.
Campen has also coached the offensive line for the Cleveland Browns (2019), Los Angeles Chargers (2020) and Houston Texans (2021). He spent 2022 and 2023 as the Carolina Panthers ' offensive line coach.
Campen will get to work with Steelers center Zach Frazier , a player that quarterback Aaron Rodgers raved about after the team's playoff loss to the Houston Texans. Right tackle Troy Fautanu , left tackle Broderick Jones and right guard Mason McCormick are also young blockers who could make up a solid front going forward.
