A fixture at Gillette Stadium, Will Campbell had a different arena erupting in cheers on Friday night.
The Patriots first-rounder attended the Celtics-Heat game at TD Garden with a number of teammates. When New England’s suite was shown on the Jumbotron, Campbell took his shirt off, quickly chugged a beer, then flexed and further pumped the crowd up.
The footage quickly went viral and Patriots coach Mike Vrabel saw the clip, too. Notorious for his one-liners, Vrabel said he wasn’t terribly impressed with Campbell’s chug on WEEI Monday morning.
“I’m thinking about firing our strength coach with the way (Campbell) looked with his shirt off,” Vrabel cracked.
It was the second time this month that a star from another sport chugged a Jumbotron beer at a Celtics game. Bruins defenseman Nikita Zadorov got the ball rolling earlier in December — though he kept all of his clothes on.
On Saturday, Zadorov said he’d seen Campbell’s chug and challenged him to a competition, while poking a little fun at the Patriots rookie’s wardrobe decision, too.
“We can have a chug off at some point,” Zadorov said. “I’m going to keep my shirt on this time though.”
