The Braves just did something special. They didn't just win a game; they snatched the NL East crown right out of the hands of the competition. It wasn't pretty, and it certainly wasn't expected, but that is exactly how championship teams act.
According to MLB.com Braves, the team secured the division title with a 4-2 win against the Astros at Daikin Park. Mike Yastrzemski provided the spark. He hit a massive three-run home run in the sixth inning to take the lead. This blast was his third home run during theh Braves' 4-2 road trip.

The win was built on grit from players nobody saw coming. Per MLB.com Braves, Martin Pérez started the game. He was a non-roster invitee who had been designated for assignment back on April 12. Even the manager, Walt Weiss, noted that preseason predictions were not high on the team's chances this year.
The magic of the underdog
I love watching a group of players defy the odds. Look at the pitching. Victor Mederos entered the game in the fifth with one out and the bases loaded. He managed to strike out Jose Altuve and get Yainer Diaz to ground out to end the inning. That is pure guts.
Mederos spent most of the first three months of this season in Triple-A. He only had 12 big-league appearances before this year began. Seeing him step up in a high-pressure moment is why we watch baseball. This team finds ways to win even when the stars aren't the ones doing the heavy lifting.

Eyes on the postseason
Winning the division matters because it gives the Braves breathing room. The club can now focus on the playoffs during the final six games of the regular season. This victory marks Atlanta 's seventh division title in the last nine years.
The road ahead won't be easy. The Braves are currently sitting as the No. 3 seed in the National League. Their next matchup in the Wild Card Series will be against either the Cubs, the Padres, or the Phillies .
