- Missouri football RB Ahmad Hardy breaks MU single-season rushing record
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Ahmad Hardy has broken the Missouri single-season rushing record.
The consensus All-American sophomore needed 68 yards to surpass 1,627 rushing yards this season, and he hit that mark with a 12-yard run in the fourth quarter of the Tigers ' game against Virginia in the Gator Bowl on Saturday at EverBank Stadium.
It marks the third time that the record has been broken in the past five years at Mizzou.
Hardy surpassed Cody Schrader 's mark from 2023. Schrader set the previous record in Mizzou's Cotton Bowl win over Ohio State, beating Tyler Badie 's mark from the 2021 season.
After transferring to Missouri from Louisiana-Monroe, Hardy has emerged as one of the top running backs in the nation in the 2025 season.
He narrowly missed out on unanimous All-American honors, earning a first-team nod from four of the five NCAA-recognized selectors. Since he earned more than three All-American selections, he is considered a consensus All-American.
Hardy also was a finalist for the Doak Walker Award, given to the best running back in the country each season, but lost out to Notre Dame's Jeremiyah Love .
Hardy, as a true sophomore, is eligible to return to the Tigers next season and has two more years of eligibility. He will be eligible to declare for the NFL Draft after the 2026 campaign.
If he reaches 143 yards in the game, he will surpass Devin West's 1,703-yard rushing season in 1998 for what is technically the best season in Mizzou history. But, since bowl game stats didn't count toward season records when West played, that is not the record in Missouri's books.
Mizzou trailed Virginia 13-7 at the time Hardy broke the single-season record. The rush took him to 81 yards in the game.
