As the MLB offseason progresses, the services of free agent outfielder Kyle Tucker are still highly sought after. The market's top player has been pursued by several teams throughout the free agency window. Now, one team has reportedly made an explosive offer for the star outfielder. According to FanSided's Robert Murray and other sources, the New York Mets have offered Tucker a short-term deal worth $50 million a season.

"The New York Mets are pursuing superstar outfielder Kyle Tucker — and have made a short-term offer worth $50 million per season, sources say," Murray wrote. "John Mincone first reported the Mets' offer."
While the offer does come as a mild surprise, it's not surprising that the Mets are in on Tucker. Longtime first baseman Pete Alonso signed with the Baltimore Orioles in free agency. Closer Edwin Diaz departed for the Los Angeles Dodgers . Other key pieces, like outfielder Brandon Nimmo and utilityman Jeff McNeil , have also left Queens. New York owner Steve Cohen, the richest of his peers, is not afraid to open his checkbook to get back to October. Can the Mets snag the market's top free agent for the second straight offseason?

Last offseason, superstar outfielder Juan Soto signed a record-breaking $765 million deal with the Mets. Despite multiple departures this offseason, New York's president of baseball operations, David Stearns, has still opened up Cohen's checkbook. After stealing Soto from their crosstown rivals, the New York Yankees , last offseason, the NL side has brought in ex-Yankees relievers Devin Williams and Luke Weaver to stabilize the bullpen.

In addition to the relievers, Stearns traded Nimmo for Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien , then inked Jorge Polanco to play designated hitter and first base. With the departures of Nimmo and McNeil, there's a big opening in the Mets' outfield. For now, it looks as if former first-rounder Carson Benge might claim the role. However, Tucker would certainly turn New York's offseason around. Will the latest offer lure the star outfielder to Queens, just like Soto was last winter?
