Friday is the NHL trade deadline and the Minnesota Wild are certainly in the market for help. They have resumed play after the Olympics , and Bill Guerin would love to add more talent after swinging big for Quinn Hughes .
The MN Wild's greatest need looks to be in the circle. Finding a top center that can help to quarterback the offense is something that has escaped the team all season.
In the conversation to win a Stanley Cup as one of the best teams in the league, they'll be active until the league says they can't anymore. While they haven't yet landed another big fish , Guerin continues to improve on the fringes .

Jeff Petry joins the Minnesota Wild
The Wild added depth center Michael McCarron earlier this week. He's not the tier they are seeking, but bolstering the roster as a whole makes sense. That's exactly what Guerin decided to do on defense as well. Jeff Petry isn't going to set the world on fire, but he gives John Hynes another usable option.

Minnesota Wild President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Bill Guerin today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has acquired defenseman Jeff Petry from the Florida Panthers in exchange for a seventh-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft. The draft pick becomes a fifth-round selection in the 2026 NHL Draft if Minnesota wins two playoff rounds and Petry plays in 50 percent or more of the Wild's playoff games during those first two rounds.
This is Petry's 16th year in the NHL . He was in his first season with the Florida Panthers, and the Minnesota Wild will be his sixth different team.
In 58 games this season, Petry has eight assists. He has blocked 57 shots and has 59 hits. If he doesn't have a puck find the net, it would be the first time in his career that it has happened.

Expecting Petry to be a significant difference maker would be silly. However, he can contribute on the lesser lines and help to spell some of the top Minnesota defenseman. He clearly keeps himself in shape, still playing at a high level despite being 38 years old.
The MN Wild are back in action on Friday night against the Las Vegas Knights. Las Vegas acquired Washington Capitals center Nic Dowd on Thursday. It remains to be seen what other talent Minnesota may bring in for the matchup.
