The Dodgers got bad news on one of their stars Sunday.
Mookie Betts was placed on the 10-day injured list with an oblique strain. The shortstop left Saturday’s game against the Washington Nationals after top half of the first inning.
The Dodgers classified Betts ’ injury at the time as lower right back pain.
Manager Dave Roberts told reporters Sunday that he believes Betts injured his oblique on a check swing and felt it running when he scored on a Freddie Freeman double.
Hyeseong Kim was called up from Triple-A to take Betts’ place on the active roster.
The Dodgers now have 11 players on the injured list.
It’s unclear how long Betts will be sidelined. Oftentimes, oblique strains can take 4-6 weeks heal. Roberts is optimistic Betts will return before that timeframe.
“I would take the under on that,” Roberts said . “But as far as putting a timeline, I’m really hesitant right now, because they are tricky.”
Roberts added Betts told him he “feels better than he thought” and is in good spirits.
In 28 at-bats, Betts has two home runs, seven RBI and is batting .179.
