- Mount basketball to retire Junior Robinson's number
Mount St. Mary's will retire the number of former men's basketball great Junior Robinson on Dec. 29 before the team's Metro Conference home opener against Marist and induct him into its Athletic Hall of Fame.
The 5-foot-5 Robinson, who wore No. 0, dazzled Mount fans from 2014-2018 with his speed, athleticism and shooting prowess. Even as one of the shortest players in Mount history, he could dunk a basketball.
Robinson is the fifth men's basketball player in Mount St. Mary's history to have his number retired, joining Jack Sullivan (No. 32), Fred Carter (33), Chris McGuthrie (50) and John O'Reilly (51).
As a senior, Robinson was named the Northeast Conference Player of the Year after averaging 22 points and almost five assists per game.
Over the course of 131 games at the Mount, he finished with 1,872 career points and 603 made baskets.
During the 2016-17 season, he led the Mount to NEC regular-season and tournament championships. The team went on to defeat New Orleans in the First Four of the NCAA tournament before falling to top-seeded Villanova in Buffalo in the next round.
Following his time at the Mount, Robinson enjoyed an extensive professional playing career, primarily overseas. He had a stint in the NBA Summer League with the Atlanta Hawks and played briefly for the Greensboro Swarm, the NBA G-League affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets.
Overseas, Robinson played for Spanish teams Sáenz Horeca Araberri and Grupo Alega Cantabria CBT, Austria's Raiffeisen Panthers Fürstenfeld, and Swiss team BBC Monthey-Chablais.
Tickets for the game are available for purchase on the Mount's HomeTown ticketing page. Through Sunday at 11:59 p.m., tickets are being offered for $5.50 in a nod to Robinson's height.
