Someone else will get to celebrate the special moments in their life with a shot of espresso — and for a good cause.
The espresso machine that Team Italy used to celebrate its home runs during the World Baseball Classic sold at auction Monday night, ultimately bringing in $16,510.
A total of 307 people bid on the item during its six days up for auction.
Vinnie Pasquantino , Team Italy’s star and Kansas City Royals first baseman, posted on X late last week that the proceeds from the auction were going to Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center .
“They provide service for children, teens and adults with autism,” Pasquantino said . “This was a group decision because this center has helped some people that are apart (sic) of our team. Thank you for the support!”
Along with having WBC logos on it, the espresso machine has the numbers of the Team Italy players who hit home runs during the tournament. It also has a “Baseball isn’t boring” sticker.
The machine was used in three games during the World Baseball Classic — March 10 in pool play, March 14 during the quarterfinals and March 16 in the semifinals.
