While Cameron Boozer is one player who could go with the Washington Wizards with the No. 1 overall pick, there is a bevy of other options that the team could think about ahead of the 2026 NBA Draft in June. As Boozer could go No. 1 overall to the Wizards , this NBA executive makes the case why that should be a reality.
The Athletic did a survey with 13 NBA executives, scouts, and members of the front office during the Combine, asking each who they thought Washington should pick with the first overall pick.
Only one picked Boozer over options like BYU's AJ Dybantsa, Kansas' Darryn Peterson, and North Carolina's Caleb Wilson, with the executives saying that the Duke big man has the "highest level of winning fiber," among other traits.
"The one respondent who said Washington should draft Boozer first said Boozer has the 'highest level of winning fiber' of anyone in this draft. Boozer, that person said, will be a 'stabilizing' force on any team he joins and is likely to develop into "a better version of Al Horford ," Josh Robbins and David Aldridge of The Athletic wrote.
There was even another who responded that Washington should trade back a spot or two and take Boozer, while getting a potential first-round pick out of it.
"A respondent who voted for Dybantsa said the Wizards should trade back and select Boozer if they could gain a future first-round pick in the process," Robbins and Aldridge wrote.
The pick that the Wizards will "sleep like a baby" after making
Most of the votes from The Athletic went to Dybantsa, who seems to be the consensus for the first pick, with one saying that the Wizards should take him and "sleep like a baby."
Last season with Duke, Boozer averaged 22.5 points and 10.2 rebounds per game while shooting 55.6 percent from the field. Dybantsa also averaged impressive numbers, recording 25.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game while shooting 51 percent from the field.
It remains to be seen who Washington picks or does with the No. 1 overall pick, as the first round starts on the night of Tuesday, June 23.
