NBA rumors: Insider floats idea of Thunder-Clippers trade, then Chet Holmgren trade to get Cameron Boozer appeared first on ClutchPoints . Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here .
The rich could get richer, as the Oklahoma City Thunder are set to add more blue-chip talent in next month's NBA Draft, just days after falling short to the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference Finals.
The Thunder own the No. 12 and the No. 17 picks. Reports, however, have arisen over the past few weeks that the team could try to move up the board to get Duke forward Cameron Boozer , who is widely projected to be a top-three selection.
ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel said Thunder general manager and executive vice president Sam Presti is already cooking up something.
"Two executives who spoke with ClutchPoints envision Presti attempting to use both picks, along with other assets, to try and trade up into the lottery, possibly as high as the top four, and pursue Cam Boozer ," said Siegel.
Yahoo! Sports' Kevin O'Connor, meanwhile, floated a more complex route for the Thunder, which would also involve the Los Angeles Clippers , noting that Presti "rarely settles."
"League sources widely expect the Clippers to listen to trade-down offers for the fifth pick. So maybe there's a deal to put together with 12, 17, and a player to get there. Then from the fifth pick, can OKC build an overwhelming offer to get up into the top three? Could that deal include a 24-year-old All-NBA player?" wrote O'Connor.
While he did not mention a name, it was obvious that he was referring to Thunder forward Chet Holmgren , who had an awful series against the Spurs.
Holmgren got exposed pretty badly, and his forgettable performance could make the Thunder think twice about keeping him for the foreseeable future. It, however, would be a major risk as well to roll the dice on Boozer. After all, there is an endless list of collegiate stars who did not pan out in the NBA.
The Washington Wizards , the Utah Jazz , and the Memphis Grizzlies own the top three picks.
As the NBA Draft nears, the question is: What would Presti do?
