LeBron James ' free agency decision may not arrive as quickly as many around the NBA had anticipated.
According to ClutchPoints NBA insider Brett Siegel, teams pursuing the four-time NBA champion increasingly believe James will wait until around NBA Summer League before deciding where he will play his 24th season.
Speaking on a recent episode of Clutch Scoops, Siegel said James is taking a patient approach while allowing agent Rich Paul to handle discussions with interested franchises.
"He's completely chilling. He's letting Rich Paul handle this situation, having teams come to him with proposals and their offers and what it could potentially look like and what other moves they're looking to make in free agency because that's going to weigh on LeBron's mind as well."
Siegel added that league sources do not expect a resolution in the immediate future.
"The people I spoke with today and teams that are directly involved in this don't think it's gonna happen until right before Summer League or near the start of it."
James entered free agency after informing the Los Angeles Lakers that he intends to continue his career elsewhere , immediately becoming the biggest free agent on the market. The Golden State Warriors , Miami Heat , Cleveland Cavaliers , Philadelphia 76ers , Minnesota Timberwolves and Denver Nuggets have all reportedly expressed interest , setting the stage for one of the most closely watched free agency decisions in recent NBA history.

According to Siegel, James is evaluating more than just contract offers. He also wants to see how interested teams continue building their rosters throughout free agency before making a final commitment.
That measured approach allows franchises additional time to strengthen their championship outlook while giving James a clearer picture of where he would have the best opportunity to compete for another title.
Siegel also indicated that the process should begin accelerating next week.
"At some point next week, we'll have a clearer picture of what LeBron is actually thinking and that's when he's going to actually have these in-person meetings."
"I fully expect that to happen during Summer League."
The 2026 NBA Summer League will be held in Las Vegas from July 9 through July 19, providing a likely timeline for James' anticipated in-person meetings with interested teams. The event has long served as a gathering place for executives, agents and players during one of the busiest stretches of the NBA offseason.
While speculation surrounding James continues to dominate the free agency landscape, teams pursuing him may need to remain patient for several more days. If Siegel's reporting proves accurate, meaningful progress toward a decision may not come until Summer League begins, when James is expected to narrow his options and meet directly with interested organizations.
