NBA rumors: How Timberwolves feel about LeBron James pursuit after reaching out appeared first on ClutchPoints . Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here .
With LeBron James now confirmed to leave the Los Angeles Lakers as a free agent, a range of teams led by the Golden State Warriors have emerged as potential suitors. The 41-year-old will undoubtedly look to make what is almost certain to be the last move of his career in order to maximize his chances of winning at least another ring, and the Minnesota Timberwolves have also come to be counted as a potential landing spot.
Per The Athletic, one league source revealed that Minnesota were one of several teams that have reached out and expressed interest for James. And while the fit may be tantalizing considering the Timberwolves' roster, there are plenty of obstacles as well.
"The Wolves do not believe they're anywhere near the front of the line for James' services, the team and league sources said, especially considering their lack of spending power. They could try to trade Josh Green , who was acquired in the LaMelo Ball trade and has an expiring $14.7 million contract to try to add a power forward or more spending wiggle room, but the Wolves are intrigued by Green's talent," they said.
Hence, while the option remains, Minnesota can be expected to be behind the likes of the Warriors , the Cleveland Cavaliers , the Miami Heat and the San Antonio Spurs in the race, although all of those teams will also have to make at least some form of financial adjustment. Golden State, however, appear to have already begun making the effort.
They have been linked to a trade for the Washington Wizards ' Anthony Davis , and the fact that Draymond Green has turned down his $27 million player option for next season means that they now have a straightforward path to taking on LeBron.
James averaged 20.9 points, 7.2 assists and 6.1 rebounds per game while shooting 51.5% from the field last season, making his 23rd consecutive year averaging at least 20 points. While still elite, LeBron is reportedly not close to making his decision as things stand, and a range of other contenders can also be expected to express interest in the coming days.
